[Chris watches the transition, his concern pulling at him again.

He does as asked, at least, and cuts it in his customary threes before putting it back together and sliding it back.]

What's been going on, Crais? What's missing that's worked into your head?

[ He picks the deck up and starts dealing out hands of seven cards, and leaves the deck in the middle. ]

I realized that the... social safety net I built to compensate for Cy's restless nature has fallen apart with people leaving and I haven't bothered to rebuild it.

[Chris gathers his hand, but barely glances at it, his attention still on Crais.]

Because you hadn't noticed just how many you'd lost or because rebuilding it is difficult?

[ Crais isn't avoiding the conversation, but most of his attention is actually on his hand of cards, and sorting them out so he can determine how many new cards he needs. ]

I hadn't really noticed. Rebuilding will be a pain in my ass, but I suspect it'll be more irritating than really difficult.

[Chris laughs and finally looks at his cards properly.]

You're one of the few I could name who'd look at needing to make new friends as a chore, Crais.

I like people. It's just that I've already done this once. Doing it again seems... extraneous.

[ He'll be fine. Maybe even make a post of it at some point. Make the most of his time. 34 birds and one stone, or something. ]

I understand. I was lucky that I had a few I knew from before still lingering about when I came back. It made rebuilding easier.

[He picks a few cards out and rearranges them in his hand to make the groupings easier to see for himself.]

You'll have me meantime...I mean, absolutely get other people, neither of us needs to be the only person here to support the other, we'd both go mad, but generally speaking.

I think that's generally true of anyone, though perhaps my attraction to cats and birds makes that more true.

[ He has a lot of... independent types in his roster, such as it is, and that was true even when there was more of them. He likes them. Prefers them. Still needs to be enough of a circle that no one is leaning on exclusivly him or that he leans exclusively on.]

I'd say you like simpler creatures, but not sure I'd claim that of cats or birds, knowing a few examples of both.

[Cats were persnickety and birds were little opinionated terrors.]
