All of Nate’s gifts are delivered via a fluttering origami bird, which flies directly to the recipient and puts the gift into their hands. Once it’s given, the bird will unfold into a note, which explains what the charm inside will do, and how to activate it. When the note has been read, it will explode into a miniature display of multi-coloured fireworks, which spell out “Yuletide wishes from Nate!” and then vanish.
Chris receives a pair of earrings, one enchanted for strength, and the other enchanted with a constitution boost. Twist them clockwise to turn them on, and anticlockwise for off. There’s also a bracelet that the studs can slot into, just in case Chris hasn’t evolved to the point of piercings yet. Forgive me for tracking you down, it took me a bit to find the right person. I will be starting a jail and realignment sentence soon for a horrific act I committed when I lost my love and my emotions. It is for a singular act I committed but not all of them.
It's not for the horrific attack I perpetrated on you. If you want to contact the sin guards and report me so that it can be added to my sentence, I'll be starting my sentence in two days.
If you would rather handle it yourself, I'll be locked up for 2 weeks.
There is no apology great enough for what I did. There is no excuse. I'm sorry that I risked others out of obsession and what I mistook for love. Whatever punishment you deem fit for my attack on you, I will stand by it.

Festival opens his mouth, then closes it again speechlessly. He was expecting a protest to which he thinks Chris has a right after he took it so much farther than they'd agreed upon, airing his personal grievance for their audience and taking advantage of the city's punishment to get his own in.

He wishes he could show how blue her eyes are and how striking he always finds it compared to her red hair; the two major differences between them. But Festival's direct and indirect question both came back to her, in the end.
"This is Rhyt Sonom. My twin sister. She was still in the city when our enemies attacked and as the leader of it, she defended it to her death. I've got her back now with some help and some luck, but I know...for her I'd go to war with Zenethil in a heartbeat. They didn't just cause her death, they murdered her." And he was never good at being the forgiving sort.
His expression soft, he brought a hand up as though he could trace a thumb down her cheek, then pulls his hand back and fades out the image with a sigh. "On the other hand...war is terrible and I'm the head of a city that was largely evil until three years ago, if they burned it to the ground thinking that were still true, don't know that I could blame them...so a talk's needed." He looked over to Festival with a small smile. "Not everything's to be solved with fists in people's faces."

For a moment, Festival realizes he's seriously put his foot in it, his gaze torn away from the illusory face to Chris as he's already opening his mouth to apologize. But...got her back. He sucks in a breath; he knows all too well that coming back doesn't erase the dying.
