It's in relation to gods, if your world has none, I'd imagine the term would mean little. As for payment, don't worry about it for now. None involved in this have need of additional money and I imagine you have very little, if any, right now.
We'll figure something out if it's necessary.

What do you mean? Did your gods curse you?

Perhaps that is one way of looking at it.
The people that did this to us were seeking a way to be able to live freely on their planet that was dying.
Data from the sun was turning people to stone.
They had been developing a way to attune to the gods, to become strong enough to exist in the sun's rays without fear.
It worked, but the process became corrupted, turning what would have been the avatars of gods into frightful monsters.
They claimed it was an accident, but in the end they didn't care.
My other self is known as Vayu, Lord of the winds and god breath.

So you were hit with this corruption as well and have a creature side, this Vayu?

Is it something you control or does it come out under certain measures?
You're not obliged to tell me, it's your business, but if it's the latter might be something else we could help with.

That is correct.

I have complete control over my ability to transform under usual circumstances besides the starvation scenario I am seeking to avoid.
Outside of the Junkyard, the sun did occasionally affect us. It would force a partial transformation. Made it difficult to think, though we still knew who our comrades were.
That does not appear to be an issue here.

Well small favors, at least.
I'd advise being aware that the city may well change or affect that ability at some time.
Some of the monthly effects turn us against ourselves or each other and a transformation has been forced or influenced on some in the past.

Meanwhile, some others never fall victim to such things, so wariness over paranoia.
